Unsung Heroes

I nearly drowned once, off the coast of Hawaii.

A stranger swam out to me and saved my life.

I said my thank-yous at the time. But in the years that followed, I’ve completely forgotten who the stranger was. I’ve forgotten their name, and their face.

Somewhere out there is the stranger who saved my life. I wish I could talk to them.

I can’t help but wonder about all the other strangers out there in the world who did something good, and no one ever really seemed to notice.

They deserve far more thanks than they’ve received.

    Dear Jimmy,

I am glad this stranger came by and helped you in your time of need. Don’t be so hard on yourself, your mind and body was going through a lot of adrenaline dealing with the drowning so I can see how you might have forgotten your hero’s name and face. I believe in a world where we are all connected and if you put out there your gratitude somehow I believe it will reach that person.

    Warm regards,
    Buffy
